Estoy Aqui!
Hey! I've had the most amazing trip so far...okay so it's only been a day but whatever! The girls on the trip are incredible. There's seriously every type of person within the 11 of us...obnoxious, quiet, leaders, followers, fun, mellow, encouraging, sarcastic, prissy, earthy...and I love them all already. So no problems with getting here except we had to sprint to make our connection in Houston. I've been taking so many pictures so as soon as I figure out how to post them on here I'll do that. So right now we're in Guatemala City until Wednesday staying at this Anabaptist seminary for orientation stuff. It's really cool...there's a big open coutyard and some dorm-style rooms and bathrooms. We all eat communally (with some other students studying here), which is fun! Speaking of food, it's been fine, although I did have my first black bean soup today, lunch wasn't the best. We toured Guatemala City &saw some sweet catherals and people and a political demonstration. It's wierd to see military guys on every corner with huge guns, but makes you feel safe in a way too. Tonight we're having worship/bible study and some learning stuff about the history here etc. Oh I forgot to tell you the coolest part of SEMILLA (the seminary)...we have these two huge open roofs that overlook a ton of the city! Laura and I went up last night and did skating moves on the roof an looked at the stars. There's a volcano that you can see from there too, but we probably won't get to see it when it's erupting. Dang. Other than that, it was in the 80's here and beautiful. It was great to have to wear sunscreen! Katie, I wore that grey skirt today! Right now there's a professor (Prof. Weightman) and her husband staying with us, but when we leave for Antigua on Wednesday she's flying back to MN. I can't wait for you guys to see my pictures, it's so cool here! We saw the slums today that are on the slope of the mountains and the shacks just break your heart. There's a little nasty river at the bottom that you can just see the parasites in! We have to be really careful about food and water, but it's basically inevitable that we'll get the runs at some point, so I'm pretty pumped for that. I love getting emails and facebook messages, but don't be offended if I don't write back or if it's really brief (Drew). This internet is really slow and the keyboard is like impossible to use. Dang Anabaptists! But for real, I'm having so much fun and am already starting to see some of the ways God's gonna work in my life. Dad, I'm taking my malaria medicine. Heather, you can pick up the roommates' clothes and your birthay present at my house. Kar...could you check my P.o. for those shorts? Sweet. K time to go to dinner...bet it has something to do with frijoles, wahoo! Love you all and thanks for all your prayers. It couldn't be going better!
